Introduction to 2012 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival

The 2012 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival offers a series of lanterns display and activities. As 2012 is the Year of Dragon in the Chinese zodiac, the Kaohsiung City Government will combine dragon motifs with the traditional customs of the Lantern Festival for a holiday experience everyone can enjoy. Additionally, the romantic Water Lantern Event at Love River will combine the Lantern Festival with the romance of Love River as an expression of the theme of the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival: Love and Happiness. This event will deepen the bonds of friendships within Kaohsiung City and fill Kaohsiung City with blessings of success.

Traditions: Viewing lanterns, carrying lanterns, solving riddles on the lanterns, various traditional prayers. Kaohsiung has the most traditional Lantern Festival in Taiwan.
Modernity: With the Romantic Lighting River Club, performance of street artists and the fashion show of dragon design, Kaohsiung has the most modern Lantern Festival in Taiwan.
Arts: With joint works between Taiwanese artists as well as the exchange of the beautiful lanterns between Taiwan and China, Kaohsiung has the most artistic Lantern Festival in Taiwan.
